2002 Business Meeting Minutes
March 3, 2002, 7:00-8:00 a.m.
Long Beach, CA

Present

  1. Julie YingLing, Madeline Keaveney, Stephanie Coopman, Juliann Scholl, Brian Whaley, Scott Moore, Anne Hubbel, Leigh Ford, Scott Paynton, Laura Ellingson, Patricia Geist-Martin, and Lawrence Frey.
  2. HCIG Chair and Program Planner, Madeline Keaveney, called the meeting to order and handed out agenda.

Old Business

  1. Minutes from the 2001 business meeting were accepted and approved.

  2. Chair's report (Madeline Keaveney):

    1. Chair obtained an individual list of members but it is not completely accurate.
    2. Chair wanted to thank those who read papers for this year's conference (See announcements page) and explained the selection of participating panels and papers for this year's conference.
    3. Chair reported that this year the HCIG has a whole panel of student papers in the division.
    4. Chair also reported on the "Research in Progress" panel that focuses on research participants are conducting that is not quite finished but can be discussed as a dialogue rather than formal presentations.
    5. The HCIG was double-paneled for a couple of panels this year.

  3. Webspinner's report

    1. Stephanie Coopman stated that she would post the 2002 minutes and calls for paper on the web at www.roguecom.com/HCIG

New Business

  1. Elections

    1. Scott Moore was nominated and elected as Vice-Chair for the 2003-2004 year.
    2. Members discussed making sure that HCIG has representation on executive council for WSCA. Madeline Keaveney and Leigh Ford agreed to be nominated to serve on executive council.

  2. Awards

    1. A. Members discussed the need for the top student paper award to have a $100 as part of the recognition. Madeline Keaveney agreed to pursue making sure this money is available from WSCA for this award.
    2. B. The top paper panel was #4105. The presenters of this panel were: Laura Ellingson, Santa Clara University; Anne Hubbell, New Mexico State University, and Nathan Miczo, Western Illinois University .
    3. The top student paper was presented by Nathan Miczo, Western Illinois University.
    4. The top debut paper was presented by Suheila S. Haider, California State University, Chico.

  3. Introduction of New Chair

    1. Madeline Keaveney graciously acknowledged Juliann Scholl as the new chair of the HCIG and turned over the meeting and the discussion of future business to incoming-chair, Juliann Scholl.
    2. Juliann Scholl acknowledged Madeline Keaveney for her hard work and dedication to organizing the HCIG for the 2002 conference.

  4. 2003 Convention and Future HCIG Items

    1. Juliann Scholl announced that August 15th is the deadline for panel proposals, papers, etc. for the 2003 conference.
    2. Chair Scholl asked for volunteers who are willing to read, respond to, and rank panels and papers for the 2003 conference. Volunteers signed-up on volunteer sheet.
    3. Chair Scholl passed around call for papers for the 2003 conference.
