Women's Health Issues pink ribbon

The Canadian Women's Health Network. "Women of all ages, of varied backgrounds, and with countless skills and dreams who share a common goal: To improve women's health and health services." A main feature is the one women's health magazine, Canadian Women's Health Network. Links include women's health resources, databases, research, and upcoming conferences. Available in English and French, the site is primarily geared toward Canadian and socialized medicine, although many topics are of interest to all women.

Health Square. From the About page: "Health Square is a woman's health information center, providing free access to high quality medical and health care information, written specifically for the lay person. The site covers all the major health issues confronting women and their families today. The site contains: Detailed information on over 1,000 Prescription Products , Over 500 Patient Information Pamphlets , and Over 50 Complete Chapters dealing with the Major issue confronting Women and their Families."

JAMA Women's Health Information Center. Produced by the Journal of the American Medical Association, this site provides the latest research and clinical information on women's health issues for physicians and other health professionals. Includes Newsline, Library, Contraception Information Center, and STD Information Center.

Medical Information Sites

Melpomene Institute. From the Institute's mission statement: "Melpomene Institute helps girls and women of all ages link physical activity and health through research, publication and education. Named for an inspiring Greek woman who ran the first Olympic marathon in 1896, Melpomene was founded in 1982 as a unique research and resource center for women interested in physical activity at all levels of frequency and intensity."

National Asian Women's Health Organization. The National Asian Women's Health Organization was founded in 1993 to serve as a catalyst for a powerful advocacy movement that would inspire individuals to become active players in the political decision-making that impacted their daily lives. In its beginning, NAWHO especially recognized that Asian American women suffered from a lack of access to programs promoting equity and self-empowerment. As a result of this institutional bias, Asian American women gave less priority to their own individual health, even though they functioned as the primary caregivers in their communities and families.

National Women's Health Information Center. "A service of the Office on Women's Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. The NWHIC provides a gateway to the vast array of Federal and other women's health information resources. Our site on the World Wide Web can help you link to, read, and down load a wide variety of women's health-related material developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, other Federal agencies, and private sector resources."

Newsletters

NewsRx. "NewsRx.net contains health, science, and medical news prepared by medical journalists and science editors." Use the search function to find information on women's health issues.

OBGYN.net: The Universe of Women's Health. "A physician reviewed service offering medical professionals, women and industry a home for publishing, accessing information and global interaction." Includes the Women's Pavilion with recent news and featured sections. Available in Spanish and English.

Pink Ribbon Library of Icons. Like the icon at the top of this page? Go to the Pink Ribbon Download page for more breast cancer awareness icons. The site also includes links to other breast cancer and women's health information sites.

Queendom: Health. Part of the Internet magazine Queendom, this section focuses on general health issues, including information about specific women's health issues such as PMS, Rape trauma syndrome, pregnancy and childbirth. Worth a quick look.

Tasmanian Women's Health Network. The Tasmanian Women's Health Network Home Page has been developed to provide women in Tasmania with accessible and up to date information relating to a wide range of women's health issues. Topics include: Women's Health Achievements in Tasmania, Breast cancer, Pap smears, menopause, sexual assault, domestic violence, national women's health policy, and national women health program.

WebMD-Healthy Women. Part of the larger WebMD site, this section includes "ask the experts," library topics, chat rooms and message boards. WebMD is a medical news organization.

Women and HIV. Terrence Higgins Trust provides many services to women living with and affected by HIV & AIDS. If you, your partner or family members are HIV positive we can provide FREE and confidential support in a number of ways including, counselling for you and/or your family, advice center, treatments information, care & support, publications, help-line, links & resources, and information service.

Women's Health. On the Feminist.com site, this section gives detailed information on general women's health, breast cancer (including how to give a self examination), reproductive health, and AIDS. It provides the information through links to other key sites. From the Feminist.com About page: "Feminist.com is a grassroots, interactive community by, for and about women. We aim to facilitate information-sharing among women and encourage mobilization around political issues."

Women's Health. From the folks at About.com, this site provides an index of sites addressing women's issues as well as a glossary, FAQs, and health how tos. An excellent place to start your search for information on women's health. Also includes a list of related About.com sites. Generally, the About.com guides find the best information on the WWW, and this site is no exception.

Women's Health Interactive. Owned and operated by DK Holding Corporation, WHI specializes in the design, development and delivery of health education for women through the use of interactive digital technologies. WHI's mission is to be a unique, interactive learning environment where women gain knowledge and mastery of their health through the multi-disciplinary resources that are offered for consumers and women's health professionals.

The Women's Place - Information on HIV and AIDS for Women. This is a personal web site by a woman named Sam. It is simple but does have some great links to other sites dealing with AIDS/HIV. It takes the viewpoint of women and children with AIDS/HIV. The site provides a more personal approach to the AIDS epidemic.
