AIDS/HIV Websites

AEGIS. This is the "largest AIDS/HIV knowledge base in the world." From the organization's mission statement: "Since its inception, in 1990, AEGIS has matured into a robust, fully operational service with a global network of users. The range of information available is so vast, its quality so dependable, that national and international organizations routinely log onto the system to converse or download clinical information or late-breaking news." It has a searchable data base, latest news, a law library, publications, and links.

AIDS Clinical Trials Information Service. ACTIS "provides current information on federally and privately sponsored clinical trials for persons with AIDS and HIV infection. ACTIS English- and Spanish-speaking health information specialists provide information on the purpose of each study, whether or not a study is open to enrollment, study locations, eligibility requirements and exclusion criteria, names and telephone numbers of contact persons and drugs being studied."

AIDS Treatment News. This internationally recognized treatment newsletter is an excellent resource for persons living with HIV/AIDS who are looking for information on new therapies. Also includes AIDS Treatment links. Complete archive of AIDS Treatment News available.

The Association François-Xavier Bagnoud. "The Association François-Xavier Bagnoud is involved in 17 initiatives involving children's rights, health and human rights and pediatric HIV/AIDS in 13 countries. The Association has recently started another project in Alexandra township, next to Johannesburg, in South Africa, where the HIV incidence within the township is about 60%." This is an extensive site which includes information on health and human rights as well as the international impact of AIDS/HIV.

The Body: An AIDS and HIV Information Source. This is a user-friendly site, sponsored by several large pharmaceutical companies, covering the main topics associated with AIDS, including quality of life, conferences, treatment, and government advocacy. The site houses the on-line magazine POZ: Health Hope and HIV. Also includes Helping and Getting Help, an index of U.S. AIDS-related organizations. The Body is the winner of 1997 Global Information Infrastructure Award for Community.

Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network. A very well done site, it includes upcoming events and resource. CAAN "is a National Coalition of Aboriginal people and organizations that provides leadership, support, and advocacy for Aboriginal people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS regardless of where they reside." The site is also in French.

The Center for AIDS: Hope and Remembrance Project. Based in Houston, TX, "The CFA advocates both locally and nationally for better treatments and better access to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS and strives to keep the Houston medical and affected community informed, updated and involved in the search for a cure. The CFA also publishes Research Initiative/Treatment Action! (RITA!). This quarterly journal provides the latest HIV/AIDS information to the medical and HIV communities."

CDC National Prevention Information Network: HIV. "CDC provides leadership in preventing and controlling human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection by working with community, state, national, and international partners. The Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention is part of CDC's National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention and coordinates CDC's effort in HIV/AIDS Prevention. CDC's programs include support for state and local prevention activities; a national public information network; education programs in the nation's schools; disease monitoring; and laboratory, behavioral, and epidemiological studies designed to identify the most effective interventions to combat HIV. Major research and program areas." includes up-to-date research reports and articles on AIDS/HIV. Includes links to other sites.

Community AIDS Treatment Information Exchange. CATIE is a non-profit AIDS organization in Canada. The site includes treatment resources, the latest news on AIDS/HIV, and discussion forum. This web site is available in French and English.

The Doctors' Reform Society of Australia Policy on AIDS. This site provides a statement of DRS's beliefs and rights in regards to AIDS. It provides some international insight on the view and treatment (not just cure) of people with AIDS/HIV.

Gay Men's Health Crisis. Founded in 1981 by volunteers, GMHC is a model for AIDS care, education and advocacy worldwide. Mission: To provide compassionate care to New Yorkers with AIDS; educate to keep people healthy; advocate for fair and effective public policies.

Harvard AIDS Institute. "Harvard AIDS Institute is dedicated to conducting and catalyzing research to end the worldwide AIDS epidemic." The site includes the Enhancing Care Initiative that is designed "improve the care of people living with HIV/AIDS in resource-scarce countries." There is also information on marketing and media to prevent AIDS amoung young people. The Leading for Life campaign is designed "to mobilize African American and Latino Leaders to stand up against AIDS in their communities."

The HIV/AIDS Ministries Network. Once dubbed "The Electronic Church on the Information Super Highway," Computerized AIDS Ministries (CAM) has been on-line since June 1993, first as a bulletin board and now as a web site and e-mail discussion list.

International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care. A comprehensive Web site for cutting-edge HIV clinical management updates and timely public health policy information. This site contains much of the same quality conference coverage you have come to expect from our monthly Journal of the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care; original material produced exclusively for the Web site (ie, drug- and technology-specific indices); and policy information about ongoing efforts to expand access to healthcare services and life-saving drugs and technologies.

Mothers' Voices Homepage. "Mothers' Voices is the only national, grassroots, non-profit organization mobilizing mothers as educators and advocates for sexual health and HIV prevention." A very user-friendly, well-designed web page. It has a great support network and some general information on AIDS, including advice on how to talk to your children about AIDS/HIV/Sex.

The NAMES Project Foundation: The AIDS Memorial Quilt. The Foundation's mission is, "To use the AIDS Memorial Quilt to help bring an end to AIDS." The site includes information about the Quilt Project, the Foundation, and links to AIDS resources.

New Mexico AIDS InfoNet. he New Mexico AIDS InfoNet is a project of the New Mexico AIDS Education and Training Center in the Infectious Diseases Division of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. The InfoNet was originally designed to make information on HIV/AIDS services and treatments easily accessible in both English and Spanish for residents of New Mexico. Some Fact Sheets have information specific to New Mexico; national references are provided when relevant.

San Francisco AIDS Foundation Homepage. SFAF Mission: The San Francisco AIDS Foundation was founded in 1982 in San Francisco's Castro district as an emergency response to a quickly emerging health crisis. Its primary purpose was simply to assemble and disseminate critical information to gay men who were being diagnosed with a rare and frightening cancer. As the health crisis grew to epidemic proportions and spread into new populations, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation correspondingly grew and responded to new challenges. Building upon its original mission to educate, the AIDS Foundation added comprehensive services for people living with HIV disease and AIDS and an aggressive public policy component to compel federal and state governments to address the growing epidemic. Seventeen years later, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation is firmly established as a global leader in the fight against AIDS. A highly informative and well-done site, the SFAF Homepage covers topics such as "AIDS 101," HIV prevention, public policy, and political issues. In Spanish and English.

OutLOUD Online Homepage. OutLOUD is a safer sex outreach program for gay and bisexual men in Seattle, WA. Includes some informative quizzes on safer sex. Be forewarned that some of this site does contain graphic pictures and frank language. But, it does cover important aspects of practicing safer sex presented in a practical manner.

The Terrence Higgins Trust Home Page. Based in London, "THT is the UK's leading HIV and AIDS charity." The site includes information on housing, legal issues, and treatment, as well as sections on women and programs in Africa

The Virtual AIDS Office of Hong Kong. An initiative of AIDS Unit, Department of Health, Hong Kong. VAO functions as a clearinghouse of the Unit's four main programs which are executed by the AIDS Unit's HIV Prevention and Health Promotion Team based in Red Ribbon Center, HIV Clinical Team based in Integrated Treatment Center, Surveillance Office, and the Advisory Council on AIDS Secretariat.
