The Boulevard: A Healthcare Site for the Disabled by the Disabled. With well-done graphics, this website provides a resource directory of products and services for the disabled, elderly, caregiver and healthcare professional. The site includes medical links,
clasifieds, a calendar and a chat room and provides information on topics ranging from housing to insurance.
Canadian Hearing Society Home Page. This site has resources for people with hearing impairment in Canada. Includes a quarterly magazine Vibes available online. Published by the Canadian Hearing Society (CHS), Vibes is for and about deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people, their families and hearing health care professionals. DeafLinks, also sponsored by CHS, provides deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people with access to education, employment and communication through the use of interactive Internet applications. DeafLinks is in French and English.
CRIPmedia. An organization specializing in all aspects of marketing the disability community, including research, promoting products, representing actors and models with disabilities.
DEAF-L FAQ. This is a text only web site that provides concrete information on communication and the hearing impaired.
The Deaf Queer Resource Center. Here is something a little different. This is a specialized place to discuss being queer and deaf. The site includes a bulletin board as well as other resources and links.
Deaf Service Center of Lake & Sumter Counties, Florida. Includes a hearing self test and links to support groups.
Disabled-Enabled. Promotes communication among persons with disabilities. Includes a forum, information on specific places, travel, news, services, and education.
Disabled Peoples International. The purpose of this organization is "to promote the Human Rights of People with Disabilities through full participation, equalization of oppurtunity and development." Headquartered in Canada, this is a useful international web page with some really good links.
Disabilities Information Resources Home Page. DINF is a New Jersey Non-Profit corporation which collects "information on disabilities and disabilities related subjects and makes it available through the world wide web." This site is available in Japanese, various European languages, as well as English.
Disabilities Studies and Services Center. DSSC is a department of the Academy of Educational Development. "AED established DSSC in 1994 to design programs that meet the unique information, technical assistance, training, and research needs of professionals
and programs who serve to improve the lives of infants, toddlers, children, youth, and adults with disabilities, and their families. DSSC administers the
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY), the Federal Resource Center for Special Education (FRC), the
National Transition Alliance (NTA), the Technical Assistance Center for Professional Development Partnerships and COACH." Includes search engines for

Driving with a Disability. Chat about maintaining the privilege of driving for the 54 million Americans with disabilities.
Project Phoenix. Part of a larger chat website, visitors can access Project Phoenix from this link. Bilingual (English/French) chat for people with disabilities to share experiences, tips, and tricks for coping with everyday life.
Disability Information for Students and Professionals. Developed and maintained by a graduate of the Developmental Services Worker
Program at Georgian College in Orillia, Canada, this extensive site strives
"hard at making this the one stop resource for students from around the world studying to support and work for individuals with disabilities.
This site is also intended for professionals within the field to continue to be sharp in their knowledge." The site includes an international disability news ticker, links to over 200 disability-related resource sites, discussion forum, and chat room.
disABILITY Information and Resources. An index of links to disability resources on the Net. Includes search function for links listed.
Disability Mall. A shopping place for all types of items for the disabled including car rentals, clothing, and equipment.
Disability Online. An index of WWW resources for persons with disabilities.
Disability and Society. This is a journal available online. It does require a subscription fee to view
the articles.
Disability Net. There are many different services on the site such as Daily News and sports for the disabled, a shopping area where visitors can find commercial products and services, Penpals where visitors can meet new friends, Kidnet for kids, Groups where other organizations publish information, and a Job Center.
The Disability Rights Activist. This site is devoted to activism for
disability rights. Many useful legal tools, publications, articles. Also has links to government
resources.
DisabilityWorld. A web-zine that focuses on five broad topics: independent living, employment, media, technology and accessibility, and governance. From the Welcome page: "Welcome page: "DisabilityWorld is a new web-zine dedicated to advancing an exchange of information and research about the international independent living
movement of people with disabilities."
East Coast Deaf Club of Virginia. Non-profit organization serving the deaf community and holding special events for the deaf.
eBility. Clearly a commercial site, includes shopping, resources, and news.
Electric Edge. "Electric Edge is the online edition of Ragged Edge Magazine. Ragged Edge is successor to the
award-winning periodical, The Disability Rag. In Ragged Edge, and on this website, you'll find the
best in today's writing about society's "ragged edge" issues: medical rationing, genetic discrimination,
assisted suicide, long-term care, attendant services. We cover the disability experience in America --
what it means to be a crip living at the end of the 20th century."
Institute on Disability Culture NEXT RENAISSANCE. "The purpose of this site is to provide information about disability culture and to share examples of our culture. This site is currently entirely text-based." This site is all text and full of a lot of information, similar to a forum section of a
web site.
Journal of Rehabilitation Administration. Information about the journal, subscription request form, and a sample article. "The Journal is published quarterly and includes theoretical papers, applied research studies, practice reports, editorials and commentary designed to improve the practice of administration, management and supervision in a wide variety of human service settings."
Le Petit Handinaute Illustré. Original graphics (like the one at the top of this page), stories, the disability site of the month, controversy, sports, forum are the pages to explore in this website. Primarily in French, the site has a link to Alta Vita's translation program. See also Yanous, "the first French-speaking electronic magazine and portal dedicated to disabled people and disabilities." Pages are automatically translated into English, although sometimes the translation is less-than-perfect.
Learning Disabilities Resources.
This is a cute website for kids, parents, and teachers about learning disabilities. Wonderful information presented in a kid friendly way.
Malta Deaf Home Page. This page is currently under
construction, but looks like it has the potential to be a useful web site for the hearing impaired both in and outside of
Malta.
Mass Media and Disability Links. Includes lists of publishers, films, research groups, news sources, and organizational publications. Web Publications lists many useful online resources.
NCSA Mosiac Access Page."Development of this page is under the Mosaic Access Project with support from the National Science Foundation. The short term goals of this
project are to identify some of the major barriers people with disabilities encounter using NCSA Mosaic. Where feasible, solutions will be designed
and implemented. . . . NCSA Mosaic was developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign."
National Center for the Dissemination of
Disability Research. This site
discusses funding and projects related to research on
disability. The web site is supported by the National Institute on
Disability and Rehabilitation Research
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities. The NICHCY is the national information and referral center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues for families, educators, and other professionals. Their focus is children and youth (birth to age 22).
National Organization on Disability.
From the organization's mission statement: "The National Organization on Disability promotes the full and equal participation of America's 54 million men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. N.O.D. was founded in 1982 at the conclusion of the United Nations International Year of Disabled Persons. Funded entirely by private sector contributions, N.O.D. is the only national disability network organization concerned with all disabilities, all age groups and all disability issues."
National Rehabilitation Information Center.
This is site provides information for independence, including in-home services,
online services, and links to other related sites and publications. It
also contains a complete database of information topics on disabilites such
as autoimmune disorders, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.
Very informative.
Net Connections to Communication Disorders and Sciences. This site focuses on
communication disorders such as stuttering and hearing impairment.
A comprehensive site that is mostly text information.
People to People Committee on Disability. This organization was founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower to reach
out with information and assistance to promote peace throughout the world. This site is still under construction, but promises to have a newsletter
and more links to organizations.
Quadriplegic Association of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. "The Association and its affiliated branches was established to assist quadriplegics by providing a range of highly specialized support services that are designed to promote and encourage their rehabilitation, community integration and independence." The site provides information on self help, fundraising, membership, and links to other resources.
Saskatchewan Special Education. For teachers of students with disabilities. Includes back issues of publications and a newsletter.
SignWriting Site. This is a web site for teaching sign language. The site contains a library of articles and free on-line sign writing courses.
Special Education Service Agency, Anchorage,
Alaska. "The Special Education Service Agency (SESA) is a publicly funded agency which provides assistance to Alaskan school districts and early intervention programs serving students with low incidence disabilities." This site has tips for teachers, a listing of conferences, an agency listing, and newsletters.
United Citizens with Disabilities: The Wheelers. "United Citizens with Disabilities is the nationwide outreach organization of Wheelers, Inc. a non-profit 501
c 3 organization to help people with disabilities everywhere."
University of Michigan Services for Students with Disabilities. The site outlines everything from services offered to
education on the U of M campus.
Where do we go from Hear?. This is a fun page for parents and kids about
disabilities. The graphics are creative and there is a lot of useful information with many helpful links. Check out the communication wheel where you can click on a portion
of the wheel and it takes you to more information on that topic.
World Association of Persons with Disabilities. WAPD "advances the interests of persons with disAbilities at national,
state, local and home levels. We believe that all are entitled to high
quality of life."
World Institute on Disability. "Located in Oakland, California, WID is an international public policy center dedicated
to carrying out cutting-edge research on disability issues and overcoming obstacles to independent living." The site includes a newsletter, IMPACT , that deals with
economic development and disability. Also has useful information about how technology and ways in which the Internet has the potential to empower the disabled
community. A very informative web site.
Yahoo.
This Yahoo index page focuses on disability therapy and rehabilitation, with headers for the following topics: Art Therapy,
Equestrian, Horticultural Therapy, Institutes, Occupational Therapy,
Physical Therapy. . . and that is just the start.
