CALL FOR PAPERS/PROGRAMS
READERS Many thanks to my paper and panel readers: Renee Gillespie, University of Colorado at Boulder,
Elaine Fredianelli, CSU-Hayward, Juliann Scholl, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Bryan
Whaley, University of San Francisco.
SUBMISSIONS
HCIG received three program submissions, equivalent to last year's number, and all were paneled at the advice of reviewers. We received ten competitive papers, down from last year's twelve, and also paneled all at the advice of reviewers. Our members are doing double duty which is clear from our 30 program participants in this year's six panels compared to 50 in last year's nine panels. Thanks to Cyd Ropp, Stephanie Coopman, Scott Paynton and Leigh Ford for serving in several capacities. Interestingly, our top-ranked paper, averaging ranks across reviewers, was also our top student paper and a debut paper.
AWARDS
We elected in last year's meeting to continue to spend our $100 from the Association on a top
student award. Bryan Whaley kindly volunteered to obtain a plaque for the top student as well,
courtesy of the University of San Francisco. At the business meeting, we will be awarding the
plaque and the check to the top student paper author, and certificates to the top four paper
authors.
GRATITUDE: CHAIRS, RESPONDENTS, BY-LAWS COMMITTEE
Special thank-yous are in order to the two members who devoted their time to developing by-laws for the group: Christie Beck and Stephanie Coopman. Thanks also to all who volunteered to
chair or respond to panels: Madeline Keaveney, CSU-Chico, Leigh Ford, Western Michigan,
Stephanie Coopman, San José State University, Scott Paynton, Humboldt State University, Christie Beck, Ohio
University, Marifran Mattson, Perdue, Bryan Whaley, University of San Francisco, Liliana Rossman, CSU-San Marcos,
and Juliann Scholl, University of Nebraska.
Respectfully submitted,
The call for papers and programs went out electronically and by paper. Our webspinner,
Stephanie Coopman, sent out the call via the HCIG website (www.roguecom.com/HCIG) and
CRTNET (NCA's listserve). I sent a letter and flyer to all declared members of HCIG. I looked
into sending it to NCA's Health Communication Division but was again told that they charge $60 for mailing labels. Thanks to Humboldt State University for copying and mailing resources.
